Kalei's First Christmas

Hi everyone, its Kalei's first Christmas. She enjoyed her first Christmas (part 1) at her grandparents in Arizona. She received a few very special gifts and some new wonderful outfits. Kalei is now in Oregon for Christmas (part 2). She will be spending time with her grandma and great grandparents. This was also Kalei's first airplane ride. She slept most of the way on the plane from Arizona to California then to Oregon. Kalei will be posting more pictures and telling about her first Christmas in the days to come.

Even more photos of Kalei

Kalei is now 3 months old. She is learning to express herself through her voice. Her smile is contagious and captivating.

Kalei's expressive eyes pull you in, demanding your attention and love for her. She brings joy to everyone who stops to say hi. Often you can hear people remark about her long eyelashes, her cute little toes and her vibrant personality.

She is now sleeping through most of the night and wakes up with the biggest smile in the world. She would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support. And especially a big thanks to everyone's prayers for Kalei's Mom and Dad.

Love Kalei

Birthing Story

It was supposed to be a "Girl's Night Out" for Barbie on July 9. Michelle, Barbie's friend, came over to have an evening of old "Friends" episodes and fun. Plans soon changed when Kalei decided she wanted to be apart of this "Girls Night". Before the night really began however, Barbie's water broke and Michelle and Barbie were off to the hospital to make sure all was okay. Once getting checked in at the hospital and confirming the water break, she talked with Chris and told him it was time to come. Chris was in Tucson all week and had no working phone at the time, he was beside himself when he got the call. He actually hung up on Barbie and ran down the hallway before she had a chance to tell him that he didn't have to be in a hurry. Chris was on his way to the hospital at 9:30 p.m, driving up from Tucson.

Since Barbie's water had broken before having any strong contractions, the labor was moving slowly which then called for Pitocin to speed up the process. Chris arrived at the hospital at 12:15 a.m. July 10. Exhausted and shaken from uncertainty Chris laid down to doze for awhile. Unfortunately he just couldn't stay awake for anything, only waking up to difficult contractions. It wasn't until 8:00 a.m. the next morning that the labor process really began. Barbie was dilated to four centimeters and everything moved pretty quickly. The doctor came in at about 9:40 and Barbie began pushing. Chris stood next to her side focusing on her and trying not to faint or look. Twenty minutes and five good pushes and Kalei Madison made her entrance into the world. She was born with her eyes open ready to see the world. Chris immediately started taking video and pictures to document her birth. Both were in awe at what a miracle this little girl truly was to their lives. Filled with emotions of joy, the family got to spend the first few moments together.

Kalei Has Arrived

New Pictures of Kalei and Video can be found below!!

A Little History

Kalei was born on Thursday, July 10 at 10:05 am. But the events leading up to this special moment were exciting for her mom and dad. Kalei's dad had left for Tucson on Sunday for a conference. He was supposed to be there all week and then come home on Friday with plenty of time before her arrival. After all, Kalei was not expected to arrive until July 15.

On Monday however, her dad's phone died while in Tucson. Dead. And no, he did not forget the phone charger, the phone was dead. Good thing he left Kalei's mom with plenty of contact numbers so she could get a hold of dad while he was in Tucson.

So it is no surprise how anxious he became when his hotel room phone rang. There were only be two reasons for that phone call. Either it was his friend Bryan or it was the PHONE CALL. It did turn out to be the phone call and mommy told dad that he needed to leave and come to the hospital. Dad did arrive for Kalei's birth, arriving at the hospital at 12:15 am.

All the way home Kalei's dad flashed between stages, first excitement, then nervous, then happy and anxious and then back all over the stages again. He had no phone for the long 2 hour drive home. He only had his Flip camera.

The following are 1st hand video accounts of Kalei's dad and his drive to the hospital from Tucson.

Baby Update

Here are some new pictures of Barbie and the Little One. We had a second ultrasound this week and were looking specifically for the middle bone on the pinky finger. About three weeks ago we got a phone call from the doctor saying that everything looked good on the first ultrasound, but they couldn't see this particular bone and wanted to repeat the ultrasound because it is a soft marker for down syndrome. We were not real happy with this news, but decided to start praying specifically for this and learn to trust God in everything. Well, as we went in for the second ultrasound the bones were clearly defined on both fingers. Praise God. Our little one was not nearly the show off she was during the first ultrasound. She had her face to Barbie's back so we couldn't get very good pictures and she just slept through the whole thing showing little movement. All is well, though. She is continuing to grow and is weighing in just under 2 pounds. Barbie has begun to feel her move every day and Chris loves giving her "dolphin kisses" to get her to respond and kick at him. We are very excited for her arrival.
